On Monday, July 11, 2011, thirty-two children celebrated the love of Jesus during the first day of StreetLight
Mission’s summer Vacation Bible School (VBS). The weeklong event is being held as an extension of our Friday
night outreach at Mravlag Manor in Elizabeth, New Jersey. A fun-filled day consisting of music, recreational
activities, crafts, Bible study and lunch was available to all children who attended.
Registration tables opened a few minutes before 11 and children walked through the doors with wide smiles and
excitement for the day ahead. Enthusiastic volunteers from Evangel Church and Eagles Wings ministry greeted each
child. From beginning to end there was a wonderful excitement in the building, and it was clear that the Holy Spirit
was at work.
The day began with an opening ceremony. The kids were invited to participate in worship through music and prayer
followed by dismissal to their appropriate classes. Each class ventured from activity to activity together as a
group. Whether it was while playing ultimate Frisbee outside, assembling cross shaped magnets or participating in
group discussions on what "gratefulness" looks like, each activity allowed the Holy Spirit to begin working on these
young hearts.
Most of these kids have nothing to do during these summer days. Having Street Light VBS is definitely a new opportunity
for them. Although it is only Monday, several children were already thinking ahead. Thirteen-year-old William asked
repeatedly, "Can you guys please come back next week? This is GREAT!"
The team of volunteers is excited for the week ahead. Please pray that the Holy Spirit would continue to work in these
young hearts.
